"The race itself can happen," she said, noting that sponsorships would likely be deferred for the first year because organizers lack time to build sponsorship packages.
Commissioners chose April 11 to avoid conflicts with other local races; Chair summarized the schedule: the race starts behind the fire station and finishes near downtown businesses, with the event expected to finish about 9 a.m. to allow restaurants and cafes to serve participants. Volunteers will be recruited from local groups, including churches and search-and-rescue contacts, and public works offered logistical support (including a dumpster for cleanup during related park volunteer efforts).
