The Massachusetts Gaming Commission approved agenda-setting minutes from June 24 and July 8 and adjusted its near-term calendar and agendas during its virtual meeting. Commissioner Broder moved to approve the June 24 minutes; the motion was seconded and passed 5–0. Commissioner O'Brien moved to approve the July 8 minutes; that motion passed with four votes in favor and one abstention from Commissioner Broder.
The commission reviewed packet pages covering meetings scheduled between July 22 and Nov. 24 and agreed to move a qualifier hearing currently listed for Aug. 18. Chair Jordan Maynard told commissioners he and others would be unavailable for one upcoming session and asked Commissioner Broder to chair in his stead to preserve quorum.
Commissioners added several items to the July and August agendas. Commissioner Hill requested adding a set of FanDuel house rules to the July 28 agenda, estimating about 10 minutes for the item; Chair Maynard approved the addition. A staff member identified as Mary asked for 10 minutes to present a reallocation request from the city of Springfield, which was added to the agenda. Hill also asked to add a house-rule revision from Penn Sports Interactive and a DraftKings event petition to add the TT Elite Series to the operator catalog; June briefings were agreed before the August meeting and 30 minutes were reserved.
Staff member Bradley said he expects to return 205 CMR 25606 for a final vote on Aug. 13; the item, previously approved on June 18, concerns removing a branding font-size requirement from the problem-gambling plan. Councilor Hintoff said he will present amendments to 205 CMR 238.33 at the Aug. 13 meeting to clarify where confiscated funds from prohibited bettors should be deposited; the commission reserved 15 minutes for that regulatory item.
The meeting ended with a unanimous vote to adjourn and a note that the commission will convene again at 10:30 for the next session.
