The Plainfield City Council at its July 14 meeting approved two building permits, accepted monthly department reports and heard multiple departmental updates.
Council approved a permit for 708 Main Street to install awnings on the front and back of the building following a motion by Council Member Timothy Neil and a second by Council Member Chad Shurtleff. Council also approved a permit for 305 Jefferson to replace a cement approach, sidewalk and garage floor after a motion by Council Member Jamison Downing and a second by Council Member Clyde Balvanz. Both motions passed unanimously.
The council reviewed department reports. The Bremer County Sheriff's Office report for June showed deputies spent 67.5 hours and responded to six calls for service. Discussion included a tree revitalization project at Willow Lawn Cemetery; Clerk/Treasurer Abigail Miller said the library is researching trustee information with the auditor and the state library, and Maintenance Superintendent Brice Dietz is assisting with landscaping tied to a donation project at the library. Council members were also told a new end loader could arrive "anytime next week." The council moved to accept the monthly department reports by motion of Timothy Neil, seconded by Chad Shurtleff; the motion carried unanimously.
The meeting record shows no public comments on these items. The council later reviewed Chapter 136 (Sidewalk Regulations) but took no action and adjourned at 6:51 p.m.
