On July 14 the Board adopted Proclamation 40 of 2026, recognizing July 17, 2026, as Park and Recreation Professionals Day in Centre County. Niki Tourscher, representing the Pennsylvania Recreation Park Society, and Todd Roth, president of the Pennsylvania Recreation & Park Society, joined the Board for the proclamation. Tourscher noted the organization’s work and referenced that Pennsylvania has over 6,500 state and local parks and directed interested jobseekers to the society’s website for employment information.
Board members thanked park and recreation employees for their work and emphasized programs that teach children to swim. The proclamation was adopted unanimously on a motion by Commissioner Mark Higgins and seconded by Commissioner Steven Dershem.
