Coffee County committee: health department near completion; animal shelter, Old Courthouse event approved

At its Feb. 5 meeting the Coffee County Capital Outlay Committee received updates that the Health Department renovation is nearing completion, the new animal shelter is about 90% through block work, CCAP repairs continue, and the committee approved use of the Old Courthouse grounds for a May 2 art event.
The Coffee County Capital Outlay Committee on Feb. 5 received progress reports on several county construction and repair projects and approved routine motions, including a request to use the Old Courthouse grounds for a May 2 community art crawl.
Commissioner Terry Hershman told the committee that work on the county Health Department facility is moving forward: the fire alarm and security systems are being finished, glass and windows are mostly installed, painting is underway and furniture delivery is being scheduled. "The project appears to be coming in under budget," Hershman said; a firm completion date was not provided.
Hershman also reported that block work for the new animal shelter is about 90% complete and that the metal building is being erected, with a scheduled completion date of sometime in September. He proposed retaining the existing metal building at the new animal control site for storage once the new facility opens, saying it would need to be gutted and remodeled before reuse.
Director Rick Soucy updated the committee on the Old Courthouse remodel, saying the team determined simulated plaster was not feasible and will use sheetrock instead; the committee approved a paint color that Soucy described as close to the original. Soucy also reported progress on the Justice Center roof project and noted that a collapsed sewer line at the Tullahoma Library has been repaired.
Commissioner Frank Watkins presented a use request from Linda Gains to host an Art Crawl titled "April Showers bring May Flowers" on the Old Courthouse grounds on May 2. The committee approved the proposal after Watkins moved and Commissioner Jimmy Hollandsworth seconded.
Other facility items included directional signage recently installed at the CCAP building — with one correction pending — and a recent sewer repair at CCAP that Director Soucy said he has been monitoring and which has shown no subsequent issues.
