Centre County approves $55,396.80 Axon contract to replace outdated taser units

The Centre County Board of Commissioners on July 14 unanimously approved a $55,396.80 contract with Axon Enterprise Inc. to purchase eight Taser 7 devices and an associated package that includes a virtual-reality training simulator certification, an extended warranty and unlimited training vouchers. Probation supervisor Phil Calhoun told the board the county’s current Taser platform (x26p) is no longer serviceable and the newer Taser 7 is needed to maintain officer equipment and training.
Calhoun also noted a small correction to the agenda price: the contract total was amended from $55,369.80 to $55,396.80. He said the purchase will be reimbursed by the JRI-2 grant and covers the contract period from July 14, 2026, to July 14, 2031 (Dept. 301). The motion to approve the corrected contract was made by Commissioner Mark Higgins and seconded by Commissioner Steven Dershem; the vote was unanimous.
No amendments or public objections were recorded during the discussion. The county will proceed with the vendor contract and apply JRI-2 grant reimbursement as indicated.
