The district presented vendor quotes; the superintendent read a quoted figure of $12,759.32 and the facilities representative later referenced $12,007.59 during discussion. Staff said they treated the work as an emergency so it could be completed during spring break, when vendors were available.
Board members discussed whether to seek multiple bids but accepted staff’s explanation that lead times and the need to complete work during spring break justified single-vendor emergency procurement under district policy. One board member proposed including a modest contingency for any additional costs; another suggested authorizing staff to approve associated costs without returning to the board. The board moved and seconded a motion to approve the replacement bid and associated replacement costs; the motion carried by voice vote.
Board members emphasized the work was prioritized because the kitchen must keep dishes sanitary and to avoid service interruptions. Staff said the vendor would remove the old unit and bring the new unit up to code.
