At the Jan. 21 Business and Economic Development Committee meeting, Development Director Anne Krieg presented the Commission on Cultural Development’s annual report. Councilor Mallar moved to accept the annual report and forward it to the full Council; Councilor Fish seconded and the motion passed.
Community Development Officer Robyn Stanicki then provided an overview of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, describing annual allocations, priorities for project funding and potential matching requirements. Councilor Beck asked how much CDBG funding the city receives annually and whether the city pursues matching funds; Stanicki provided figures and described staff priorities for how the division would allocate CDBG resources. Councilor Fish asked whether the Community Development Division receives other funds; Stanicki clarified additional funding sources.
Why it matters: Acceptance of the Cultural Commission’s report sends the commission’s findings and recommendations to the full Council for consideration. The CDBG overview frames how federal block‑grant funds are used locally for housing, infrastructure and community projects.
The committee voted to accept and forward the Cultural Commission report and provided staff with feedback on prioritization for CDBG-funded projects. Staff will incorporate committee feedback into future budget and program planning and present any required details to the full Council.
