Development director outlines new businesses, groundbreakings and compliance work; New River Electric seeks zoning fixes

Development Director Haire provided a run-through of recent openings and near-term projects and described work to resolve zoning and site-plan violations at New River Electric’s property.
Haire said Oxford Automotive is open at U.S. 33 and Bowen Road and that Culver’s was working toward inspections and staff training ahead of an imminent opening. He said Sweets of Grace (bookstore with future bakery) will open June 19 and that Velocity will hold a groundbreaking event on June 22 for an industrial project behind Meijer; Molto also plans to break ground this month and the previously stalled strip-center at the Meijer frontage has renewed interest and is back in review.
On compliance, Haire described that New River Electric has submitted plans to restripe parking, reorient spaces and install screening fencing for outdoor storage. He said the company had installed container-like structures on-site—zoning does not permit those structures—and that they may pursue a variance to retain them because of thefts of electrical components. "They would like to keep the containers for security purposes," Haire said, adding the city and the company are working to establish a timeline for any variance filing and final site plan.
Councilmember McLaughlin pressed whether New River Electric had taken proactive steps; Haire said they had submitted a reconfiguration and fencing plan and were working toward a final solution.
Haire also announced community events and a Culver’s ribbon-cutting planned for June 20.
