Zoning board adopts posting-location resolution to meet new Iowa transparency law

Mills County planning staff presented and the Zoning Board of Adjustment approved an annual resolution designating official posting locations for board agendas and notices to comply with a new Iowa transparency law that took effect July 1.
Staff told the board the auditor's office recommended boards and commissions pass a resolution that clearly states where agendas will be posted so records can be produced during audits. "They have to be available 24 hours a day for people to be able to read and see like that," the staff member said. The posted locations already include the county website, posting at board doors and publication in local newspapers; the resolution formalizes that list and adds a signature block for recordkeeping.
A motion to approve the resolution was made and seconded and the board recorded the affirmative votes by roll call. Staff said the resolution will be part of the board's annual housekeeping and will remain on file to show compliance with state auditing requirements.
The board did not alter the existing posting locations during the discussion; members asked clarifying questions about where items are currently posted and were told the website and physical postings meet the 24/7 access requirement.
The vote was recorded on the meeting minutes and the resolution will be available in the county's files for future audits.
