State incident command assumes wildfire response; county schedules community meeting and activates disaster-relief fund

Deputy county manager Josh Becker told the board the state has taken command of the active wildfire response, which opens access to additional firefighting resources and public information officers. Becker said the incident management team and state EOC partners are coordinating briefings and community meetings.

Becker announced a community meeting at 6 p.m. at the high school auditorium (with a virtual link) and urged residents to use official county channels for information. "We do encourage as many people, who are able to attend," he said. Staff described plans to funnel formal messaging through the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and work with incident-command public information officers to reduce confusion from multiple social-media sources.

Becker and others also promoted the Lake County Community Fund disaster-relief fund as the preferred donation vehicle; county staff (OEM and public health) will manage the fund and develop a plan for disbursement as recovery needs become clear. The board discussed fundraising, potential small-business recovery resources through state and federal channels, and the need to coordinate a single, vetted donations portal rather than multiple ad-hoc efforts.

County staff also briefed the board on operational issues that will follow in recovery, including continuity of government services and an anticipated need to consider Q2 supplemental budget items once the immediate emergency stabilizes. Several supplemental requests (skate-park repairs and support for domestic-violence advocates) were discussed; commissioners debated timing and agreed to consider the items carefully given the emergency and normal noticing requirements.
