The Bourne Select Board and the Veterans Community Building trustees met jointly July 21 and appointed Harold (Hal) Francis Skelton III to fill a trustee vacancy through May 18, 2027. Skelton described his work running the local nonprofit Fishing for the Mission, his experience with veteran services, and his intention to be an active trustee. The trustees moved, seconded and approved his appointment by roll call and reminded him he must file nomination papers to run at the next town election if he wishes to continue.
Later in the meeting the board considered a letter of interest from Wayne Sampson for the town moderator vacancy. Sampson outlined more than 50 years of municipal experience and said he would step down from other volunteer roles if appointed to avoid conflicts of interest. Board members asked about deputy support and impacts on other committees; Sampson said he would coordinate with town council and seek training with the state moderators’ association. The board moved, seconded and approved Sampson’s appointment to serve until the next annual election.
Both actions were completed with motions, seconds and majority votes recorded in the meeting minutes. The board asked staff to follow up on swearing-in procedures and administrative steps for each appointment.
