Brad Simmons reported the city’s dumpster truck was sent to the dealer for repair and the spare truck failed the same day. “These trucks are 2012 and 2011, some of this equipment is old and worn out,” Simmons said, adding the department has included an electric truck in the coming year’s budget. When asked about replacement cost, Simmons estimated, “we would be looking in the $200k range.”
Simmons raised the point because repeated equipment failures can produce unplanned expense and service interruptions; he asked the council to be aware of the age of the fleet as the budget workshop is scheduled. The minutes record the statement but do not show formal council direction to accelerate a purchase.
What happens next: City Manager Larry Tibbs continues preparing the budget and will set a budget workshop, during which equipment-replacement priorities and potential financing options can be reviewed.
