Chelmsford Select Board declines to opt out of state-authorized cannabis home deliveries

At its June 29 meeting the Select Board voted unanimously not to opt out of the Commonwealth’s new law allowing licensed cannabis home deliveries, a change the board was told Governor Maura Healey recently signed.
Chair Patricia Wojtas briefed the board on the new state law. Board members discussed the local implications, noting earlier votes in town that opposed cannabis retail locations (the minutes reference that roughly 60% of residents voted against retail locations) and the distinction put forward by members between those results and access for residents who may need home delivery for medical reasons or who choose to use cannabis recreationally.
Vice Chair Jeffrey Hardy moved the motion not to opt out of home delivery provisions and Clerk David Boisvert seconded. The board approved the motion by unanimous roll-call vote, 5–0. No local ordinance changes were approved at the June 29 meeting; the decision leaves the local option to restrict deliveries available for future consideration if the board chooses to act later.
