The Proctor Selectboard on Nov. 12 voted unanimously to sign a $43,800 contract with ECI Engineer Construction to grout voids beneath the town's firehouse after updated 3D ground-penetrating radar (GPR) scans showed clearer subsurface voids.
Presenters Josh Webb and Vinnie Gatti briefed the board on the new GPR 3D grid scans and explained that the scans clarify void locations and will help contractors target grouting. The Selectboard approved the contract and authorized grouting to begin as soon as possible.
Board members discussed how long the grout might sustain the weight of fire apparatus; the estimate given at the meeting ranged from about two to 10 years and carries no warranty. The updated scanning also increased the cost of the repair, with the board noting that the price “doubled with the updated scan.”
The board also discussed longer-term options including whether to rehabilitate the current building (which has a limited footprint) or to pursue a new building or property in the future. Presenters said one truck may be turned in early for trade-in once equipment is stripped off.
Action taken: Albert Wenta moved to sign the contract with ECI Engineer Construction for $43,800 and to begin grout work ASAP; Linda Doty seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board did not set a replacement plan or timeline; members asked for continued updates as grout work proceeds and as staff explores longer-term facility options.
