The Preston School District Board of Education voted on July 13 to purchase a policy‑service subscription from law firm Shipman & Goodwin after reviewing cost and service differences with the district’s existing provider, CABE. The motion passed with five members in favor and one opposed.
Superintendent Dr. Roy Seitsinger told the board that the district currently subscribes to CABE’s policy service as part of a package that costs $350 per year, and that Shipman & Goodwin’s quoted service is $4,500 for the first year and $2,000 for each subsequent year. After discussion, Chair Courtney Ennis and Nicole Serra moved the purchase; Kelly McNamara, Heather Helwig and Andrew Koniecko also voted in favor. Charles Raymond recorded the lone opposition.
The board did not enumerate additional benefits in the Shipman & Goodwin package during open session; Seitsinger said no other benefits were included in the Shipman & Goodwin price quote he shared. The administration will proceed with executing the subscription agreement and notify staff of the change.
The decision was recorded as a formal motion and vote in the meeting minutes. Board members also continued to address budget matters for FY27 later in the meeting.
