Miltona supervisors approve driveway repairs, order road signs and discuss stalled Lake Irene drainage project

Miltona Township supervisors on Oct. 7 authorized repairs and updates to local roads and heard public comment about blocked field access created by recent ditch work.
The board agreed to pay to install asphalt over concrete at driveways on Smokey Timbers Road and the driveway serving John Kramer's property to reduce the angle for vehicles entering and exiting those properties; the issue was raised by resident Tom Bosl. Supervisors said contractors will be notified to perform the work.
Township roadwork updates included plans to place gravel on Vermont Access Road this week and completion of dormant seeding with covering; Hidden Valley Road work is complete and Miltona Bay Road work is expected next week. The board said it will order "Share the Road" and 30 mph signs for Miltona Bay Road.
The board also reported that a drainage project on the east side of Lake Irene will not be completed because participating parties could not agree to support one another, leaving the project unresolved.
During public comment resident Eric Gesel asked for an approach access south of Vermont Access Road to reach his field; he said ditch construction eliminated his prior access and the board said the contractor would be notified to address the problem.
In new-business correspondence the board reviewed an email from Mike Urban requesting that meetings be livestreamed, minutes posted sooner to the township website and that votes on assessments be held by mailed paper ballot in spring or fall so all landowners can participate. The board noted that 2025 special assessments must be submitted to Douglas County by Nov. 30, 2024, and that Supervisor Tom Blank is validating the township's road inventory with the county.
The board set its next regular meeting for Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at 7 p.m. at the Miltona Community Center and adjourned at 7:53 p.m.
