Myrtle Creek council approves consent agenda, hears administrative and council updates

The Myrtle Creek City Council unanimously approved Consent Agenda Parts I & II on Oct. 21 after a motion by Councilor Diana Larson and a second by Councilor Cathey Wragg. The recorded yes votes were Councilors Robert Chaney, Sr., Jamie McElmurry, Cathey Wragg, Diana Larson and Rick Held.
Department reports from Finance, Police (Police Chief Jonathan Brewster), Fire and Public Works (submitted by City Administrator Pro Tem Zach Potter) were entered into the record as written. Potter provided the City Administrator report, saying he has been working weekly with FEMA and that union negotiations are continuing. Potter also said staff winterized the city pool this year instead of draining it in spring, and that two applications have been received to date for the Public Works Foreman position.
During councilor comments, Councilor Robert Chaney said an open house is being scheduled for the Visitor’s Center with the tentative goal of opening one to two days a week (possibly only one day during winter). Councilor Diana Larson suggested starting a community garden near the library and noted it could be eligible for farm-to-table grant programs.
Mayor Luke Dillon adjourned the meeting at 7:02 p.m.
