Miltona Bay Road assessment hearing: final costs reviewed, multiple payoffs recorded

Clerk Tom Blank called the Miltona Bay Road assessment hearing to order at 6:00 p.m. Dec. 2 and reviewed a handout outlining final project costs and assessable computations. He reported six parcels (five assessments) in neighboring Carlos Township and 21 parcels in Miltona Township that together produced 53 assessments. "The cost of each full assessment was $2,081.85," Blank said.
Blank explained that the assessment runs five years and that property owners may pay the assessment off at any time by contacting the clerk. He said the interest rate for the assessment was 6.55%, which the minutes note is 1.45 percentage points lower than initially anticipated. Blank also said that, per the notice mailed for this meeting, any assessment paid in full at the hearing would not appear on future tax statements. Several assessments had been paid in full prior to or at the hearing.
Engineer Jeff Stabnow, P.E., answered questions about edge treatment and surface runoff; attendees expressed thanks and said the finished pavement was a clear improvement. The minutes record a handout with assessable computations and note that two Carlos Township parcels received a half assessment with the amount shown in the transcript as "$1,40.93"; that figure appears garbled in the transcript and should be verified against the official assessment worksheet. The hearing was adjourned at 6:13 p.m.
