Rescue, Inc. reports 5,800 responses in year and expands Mobile Integrated Health program

Rescue, Inc.’s representative updated the Selectboard on Oct. 16 that the volunteer rescue organization covered roughly 5,800 calls from July 2023 to July 2024 and continues to expand clinical and training capacity across the region.
"From July 2023–July 2024 it responded to 5,800 calls (including 5 cardiac arrest saves and two more this September)," Jeanette White said in her report, which framed Rescue as a volunteer organization providing advanced technical rescue, fire-rehab, mass-casualty support and statewide mutual-aid capability.
White described Mobile Integrated Health (MIH), a partnership with Brattleboro Memorial Hospital that places trained personnel into patients’ homes for pre-op and post-op visits and, starting in November, will expand to cover COPD patients with 30-day post-discharge follow-up. The program operates by PCP referral and is funded by a Brattleboro Memorial Hospital grant, the report said.
The presentation also covered a state-of-the-art mobile training and incident-simulation trailer intended to improve on-site training and serve as a protected rehab and command post during incidents. White noted Vermont EMS Academy (VEMSA) in Newfane is positioned to provide competency-based EMS education as Vermont moves to portfolio-based assessments in 2026.
