Richford selectboard raises highway pay, changes health benefits and accepts truck bid

The Town of Richford Selectboard on Oct. 6, 2025 approved several personnel and equipment decisions affecting town operations.
Most significant, the board approved a change to highway compensation: Selectwoman Sherry Paquette moved to raise the base pay for highway employees to $25 per hour; Selectman Andy Pond seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The highway update also noted a recently acquired replacement truck and potential new hires.
Chair Steinhour moved a separate motion to grandfather current employees on their existing insurance plans while making any new hire after Oct. 6, 2025 eligible for a town-paid two-person insurance plan; Selectwoman Paquette seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board also increased the health-plan opt-out payment from $4,000 to $10,000 and required proof of alternate or spousal coverage for anyone choosing the opt-out. The minutes state that current employees who change their coverage will lose grandfathered status and become subject to the new terms.
The board accepted a single bid for a highway truck. Town Administrator Marissa Tessier opened the one bid submitted by Pleasant Valley Farms for $15,400; Selectwoman Paquette moved to accept the bid, Selectman Alan Fletcher seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Earlier in the meeting, the board voted to assist the Beautification Committee with purchasing additional Christmas decorations. The committee will contribute $2,000 and the town will contribute $1,143; Selectwoman Paquette moved to approve the purchase, Selectman Pond seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
All formal votes reported in the minutes passed unanimously. The board did not record individual roll-call votes; five members were present at the meeting.
