The Town of Miltona Board of Supervisors met Aug. 5, 2024 at the Miltona Community Center and took a series of routine and land‑use actions, including adopting a road vacation, approving culvert work tied to state funding and granting two property variances. Jerome Haggenmiller called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m.
The board accepted the July meeting minutes and the minutes of a July 8 public hearing. The treasurer reported total township funds of $733,658.04 (Checking $3,130.12; Money Market $1,002.55; Intrafi Account $473,167.84; CD $256,357.53); supervisors voted to accept the treasurer's report. The board approved payment of bills totaling $48,305.65.
The board approved a motion to replace a culvert on Miltona Bay Road rather than lining it after staff presented two estimates: $15,630 for lining versus $6,000 for replacement. Supervisors also authorized Clerk Tom Blank to sign Minnesota DNR electronic documents so the township can receive DNR funds for a portion of culvert replacement on Vermont Access Road. Both motions were approved by roll call as recorded in the minutes.
On a resolution prepared by Attorney Sugden, the board adopted Resolution No. 2024‑9 vacating a described portion of Smokey Timbers Road NW. The resolution, adopted pursuant to Minnesota Statute § 164.07, conveys the vacated tract to adjacent owners Chad R. Tjepkes and Jennifer K. Tjepkes and includes a legal description and certificate of survey as Exhibit A.
The board approved a variance requested by Scott Elliot for part of a septic system that encroached on township right‑of‑way; the board instructed Tom Blank to notify Land and Resource authorities of the township's approval. Supervisors also approved a variance for James and Anne Loomis allowing deck improvements and a building within 10 feet of the property line; the minutes record the motions and approvals.
Other items: the board named election judges for the primary (Jen, Randy, Jerome Haggenmiller, Tom Blank and Matt Kugler); noted a District 9 meeting scheduled for Aug. 21; recorded receipt of dangerous dog registration paperwork for a property with a posted sign; and directed routine mowing of temporary easements on Vermont Access Road by R & R in August. Resident Jim Eckert raised a drainage issue and was told he needs written neighbor permission before the township will do work in the right‑of‑way. Jerome Haggenmiller said he would inspect the culvert at the driveway of Dale Wilke after the meeting.
The board set the next regular meeting for Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Miltona Community Center and adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
Actions recorded in the minutes were motions moved and seconded chiefly by Supervisors Matt Kugler and Jerome Haggenmiller and signed/attested by Clerk Thomas A. Blank.
