Miltona Township approves payments, internal loan transfers and new board setup at Jan. 13 meeting

Jerome Haggenmiller, chairperson of the Miltona Township Board of Supervisors, called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. on Jan. 13, 2025. Present were supervisors Brent Boesl, Stephanie Stueve, Thomas Blank and Matt Kugler (participating remotely).

The board accepted the treasurer's report showing total funds of $532,737.13 (Checking $1,964.26; Money Market $1,002.46; Intrafi $529,770.41) and approved bills totaling $96,592.19. Both motions were recorded as carried 3-0.

The board also approved two previously discussed online internal loan payments at First Western Bank: $83,474.97 (Dec. 5, 2024) and $38,715.26 (Dec. 19, 2024). The internal-loan approval was moved by Jerome Haggenmiller and seconded by Matt Kugler and recorded as carried 3-0.

Treasurer Stephanie Stueve was authorized to manage transfers to cover immediate bills while holding two bond payments until the end of the month; she will transfer only enough into checking to cover bills and make an additional transfer near month-end to cover bond payments, per the board's direction.

The board approved a package of organizational and governance measures in a single motion. Those actions, moved by Jerome Haggenmiller and seconded by Matt Kugler and recorded as carried 3-0, included: Jerome to remain chairperson and Matt to serve as vice-chair; all supervisors to sit on the Road and Weed Committees and Brent Boesl to serve on the Fire Committee; Echo Press, The Independent, the township website and the Community Center door as official instruments for public notice; First Western Bank & Trust as the official depository; authorization for Thomas Blank to conduct township business in the name of the board; and authorization for Stephanie Stueve to transfer funds between savings and checking as warranted.

Compensation and pay rates adopted at the meeting set mileage at $0.67 per mile; meeting pay at $125 for the chairperson and $100 for supervisors, clerk and treasurer; supervisor/treasurer wage at $20 per hour with a $900 annual salary for the treasurer (paid half in June and half in December); clerk pay at $22 per hour; election judges at $20 per hour with the head judge paid $25 per hour; and the annual meeting moderator paid $25.

The meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m. on a motion by Jerome Haggenmiller, seconded by Matt Kugler, motion carried 3-0.
