Council reviews draft Title 10 changes, discusses banning bicycles on downtown sidewalks

City Recorder Joanna Bilbrey presented an amended draft of Title 10 (Vehicles and Traffic) for council review on Sept. 15, 2025. Councilors suggested removing specific street names from the Central Business District definition and instead referencing the zoning map to avoid listing streets directly in code language.
Police Chief Jonathan Brewster asked the council to consider prohibiting bicycles on sidewalks within the central business district. Council requested a clean copy of the draft ordinance for the next meeting for further review and possible action. No ordinance was adopted at this meeting.
Separately, Fire Chief Manie Pires earlier asked the council to consider revising Myrtle Creek Municipal Code section 2.05.030 to lengthen elected officers’ terms from one year to four or five years; that suggestion was taken under advisement with no vote recorded.
