North Plains library director warns services could shrink if county library levy fails

Library Director Robin Doughty told the council the library loaned 7,500 items last month, up from 7,200 in the same month last year. She warned that Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) has a levy on the ballot and that if the levy fails North Plains’ allocation would likely decrease, possibly reducing library open hours, story times, digital‑library options, physical book purchases, summer reading programs and school outreach.
Doughty said the county conducted three rounds of polling that showed positive results and that the county board had been briefed on those polls. She asked the council to be aware of the levy’s possible local impacts when discussing city priorities and budgets.
