Lasasha Breidling of the Office of Small Business Opportunity reported to the Transportation Penny Advisory Committee that Richland County currently has 272 certified SLVEs across multiple business categories.
“We have 14 pending applications and 41 renewing SLVEs,” Breidling said, and she gave category counts — nine certified in architectural and engineering, 67 in construction services, 116 in nonprofessional or other services, 74 in professional services and six in wholesale — that together sum to 272 certified firms.
Breidling also described SLBE participation goals for penny-funded work, saying Atlas Road widening phase 1B carries a 9% SLBE participation goal and resurfacing project package B carries an 8% goal.
The office is planning its 8th annual Drive to Next small business trade show and forum on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the Columbia Metropolitan Center, in collaboration with the City of Columbia. Breidling said the event will highlight businesses in the arts, technology and construction industries and encouraged vendors and partners to watch for registration information.
Committee members praised the office’s outreach and said they looked forward to the event. The meeting moved on after members had no further questions.
