Putney Selectboard approves certified pre-owned Lifepak 15 after EMS warns Lifepak 12 is no longer serviceable

Aileen Chute called the Putney Selectboard to order Oct. 30 and the board heard a Fire & Rescue status report in which Evan Martin, EMS head of services, said the department responded to 49 calls recently — 15 fires, 28 emergency medical responses and six co-responses — and that "Lifepak 12 ... has aged out" and "can no longer be serviced nor inspected." Martin presented vendor quotes for replacement devices: a certified pre-owned Lifepak 15 at $20,950.31 and a new Lifepak 35 at $51,500.
Martin and Drew Hazelton reviewed differences between the models and recommended buying the certified pre-owned Lifepak 15, which the vendor guaranteed for eight years. Town Manager Karen Astley told the board funds are available in the Public Safety Fund to cover the purchase.
Following that recommendation, Peg Alden moved to approve the purchase of a certified pre-owned Lifepak 15 (Version 4) for $20,950.31; Eric McGowan seconded. The motion passed as recorded in the minutes.
The report also noted roughly 40 people attended a recent training session on the Lifepak device. The board discussion did not record a roll-call vote for the Lifepak motion in the transcript beyond the motion, second and the stated outcome. The board also mentioned an upcoming community meeting planned by the Putney Fire & Rescue Committee in early December to discuss fire and rescue matters with residents.
Next steps: the town will proceed with the purchase and the EMS team will schedule follow-up training as needed. The Selectboard's next meeting is Nov. 13, 2024.
