Senate State Affairs Committee advances reappointment, sends multiple proposals to print

The Idaho Senate State Affairs Committee met Feb. 21 in Room WW55 and recommended the gubernatorial reappointment of Joe McNeal to the Idaho Commission on Human Rights while advancing several legislative proposals for drafting or amendment.
The committee recommended McNeal’s reappointment, with Senator Harris moving the recommendation and Vice Chairman Bernt seconding; the motion carried by voice vote. The panel also approved minutes for Jan. 27 and Jan. 31 by voice votes.
Committee members moved to send multiple request statutes (RS) to print for drafting and further consideration, including: RS 32299C2 (wildfire mitigation standard of care); RS 32447 (constitutional defense council assistance for political subdivisions); RS 32413 (an education-related DEI option with penalties); RS 32462 (revising oil-and-gas commission commissioner qualifications); RS 32465 (allowing mortuary employees to work part-time with coroners); RS 32333C1 (findings regarding the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer); and RS 32132C1 (designating a month to recognize the traditional family). Each RS was moved and seconded on the record and carried by voice vote; Senator Ruchti was recorded as voting nay on RS 32132C1.
Russ Hendricks of the Idaho Farm Bureau addressed S 1076 (Administrative Procedure Act changes) and asked that it be sent to the 14th Order of Business for amendment to clarify language requested by the Governor’s Office and the Department of Financial Management; the committee approved that referral by voice vote.
