Braselton City Council adopts FY2027 budget, approves SR 53 lighting agreement and other measures

Councilmembers postponed R-4-2026, an amendment to the urban redevelopment area (URA) project area intended to add an additional geographic area described in the resolution. Mayor Kurt Ward moved to postpone R-4-2026; the motion to postpone was seconded by Councilmember Becky Richardson and carried unanimously.
The council approved a memorandum of agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation for roadway lighting on State Route 53. The agreement calls for five new LED luminaries mounted on five new poles; under the MOA the town is responsible for installation, providing energy, operation and maintenance in accordance with GDOT's design policy manual, and the agreement remains in effect for 50 years. Councilmember Becky Richardson moved to approve the MOA and Councilmember Tom Logan seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
A new alcohol license was approved for Sean Sanford for the First Watch restaurant at 1123 Braselton Village Parkway. The license covers wine, malt beverages and distilled spirits, including Sunday sales. Councilmember James Murphy moved approval, Councilmember Richard Harper seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
Mayor Kurt Ward moved to appoint April Stephens and Elizabeth Nix to the Athens Area Facilities Authority; Councilmember James Murphy seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and included an employee recognition honoring Hubert Day for 20 years of service in the Braselton wastewater department. Mayor Ward adjourned the meeting at 5:08 p.m.
