Board reviews summer facilities plan; IT recommends Ormsby’s firewall and FirstLight VoIP pricing, and TruexCullins design work for middle-school kitchen

Director of Facilities Glenn Scott outlined the district’s summer facilities work on June 9, describing projects in addition to routine maintenance: a full ADA-compliant renovation of the RMS kitchen (asbestos flooring abatement required before cabinetry and finishes), a breezeway roof replacement at RMS-RIS, ground-level RIS flooring replacement (asbestos mastic abatement and concrete repair), continuation of the Stafford Technical Center flooring program, and asphalt and sidewalk repairs to address trip hazards and drainage in several lots. Scott said proper repair of the Gleason Road parking area will cost about $80,000 and described interim leveling work already completed.
In supporting documents, Director of Technology Patricia Aigner and Senior Systems Engineer Dan Roswell recommended replacing the district firewall infrastructure because current hardware and software are at end-of-life and the procurement exceeds the $40,000 board-approval threshold. Three bids were received; Ormsby’s submitted the low bid at $96,200 and was recommended for its local engineering support.
The technology memos also recommended a district-wide Voice over Internet Protocol phone system under a single 60-month contract to lock in pricing and avoid annual reapproval. The 60-month cost analysis lists FirstLight as the lowest five-year cost at approximately $342,593 (one-time equipment cost $136,751.12; monthly service $3,430.69; Year-1 total $177,919.40; Years 2–5 service total $164,673.12).
On building design, Glenn Scott presented a revised proposal from TruexCullins Architecture seeking $70,000 for pre-design work and a construction cost estimate for the Rutland Middle & Intermediate School kitchen renovation; the pre-design phase would provide concept drawings, pricing, specifications and a total project budget to guide next steps.
Next steps: these procurement recommendations and the kitchen pre-design request are included in the board packet for approval; the board scheduled a special meeting June 23 that will include a food service contract and an RIMS renovation update.
