Main Street Mosier seeks council support for July centennial parade; Art Committee to spend leftover Centennial funds

Rhonda Starling, president of Main Street Mosier, asked the Mosier City Council on April 20 for help staging a community parade at 3 p.m. on July 23 as part of the Historic Columbia River Highway centennial events. The parade will follow an Antique Car Parade touring the HCRH and include music and elements celebrating active transportation.
Councilors discussed the logistics of food at the Totem Plaza; Council President Emily Reed suggested one food cart would suffice and urged organizers to plan for hot, windy conditions. Starling said flyers promoting the event will be completed soon and placed in Mosier students' backpacks.
Separately, Council President Reed said local artists are interested in forming a Mosier Art Committee and noted there are leftover funds from the Mosier Centennial that should be spent before the end of the fiscal year. Reed said the committee could issue an RFP for downtown art installations to be paid initially from the leftover Centennial funds and that community members could purchase installations for the city thereafter, as was done during the Centennial celebration. Reed said she would contact Chair Peny Wallace and set an Art Committee meeting in the next week.
