Miltona board reviews Smokey Timbers Road drainage, sets culvert requirement and plans engineering follow-up

Miltona Township supervisors spent a portion of the March 10 meeting on road and drainage issues affecting Smokey Timbers Road and nearby access roads.

Tom Blank said he met with the township attorney and engineers about ongoing projects and that Widseth performed a site visit; Widseth will return with findings and feasibility reports for paving petitions on Vermont Access Road and Chicago Club LN NE at the April 14 meeting. The board contacted Land and Resource to prepare drainage plans for Smokey Timbers Road.

Blank reported that 18-foot culverts are required under all driveway locations; the minutes record that a driveway east of a water-quality riser does not have the required culvert and that the board will send a letter to the landowner requesting installation of the specified culvert size. The minutes also note residents raised standing water on the corner of Vermont Access Road and a ditch that is not flowing to the culvert; Widseth was asked to review and determine corrective work, including an additional lift of gravel if the construction documents require it.

The board approved contracting Bargen to do crack repairs and replay clear seal on Smokey Timbers Road, and accepted a chloride purchase quote to support seasonal maintenance. A second quote for Hidden Valley Road was approved conditionally pending Leaf Valley Township’s approval.

Widseth’s upcoming feasibility reports and the letter to the landowner are the next procedural steps; Widseth’s reports were expected for the board’s April 14 meeting.
