Putney reappraisal yields 138 grievance filings; 98 adjustments approved

The Putney Selectboard heard the results of a townwide reappraisal at its Aug. 7 meeting. Geordie Heller, the town Lister, said change-of-assessment letters were mailed July 11 and the town received 138 written grievance requests. Hearings were held July 29–31.
Heller reported that 98 grievances were approved with some changes to assessed value, 40 were denied and seven corrections were made. Heller’s work required significant staff time; Town Manager Karen Astley thanked Heller for “over 100 hours” of recent work to process the hearings.
The grand list is scheduled to be lodged with the Town Clerk on Aug. 14; once the tax rate is set the town will hold a special meeting to finalize tax bills. Selectboard member Aileen Chute praised the responsiveness of staff and noted constituent feedback on how grievances were handled.
The board did not take additional action at the Aug. 7 meeting; next steps are administrative (lodging the grand list and setting a special meeting date tied to the tax-rate calculation).
