YMCA reports natatorium 82% complete; city told substantial completion set for Aug. 28

A representative for the Massac County YMCA told the Oskaloosa City Council on June 15 that construction of the new natatorium is roughly 82% complete and remains on schedule. The presenter walked council members through recent photographs showing wall coats, HVAC ducting, pool piping and competition‑pool tile, and noted that bleacher installation is the next critical path item.
The presenter explained the sequence for completing the competition pool finish and coordinating state testing and balance. He said the project team was coordinating filling the recreation pool and aligning the testing schedule with state inspectors. "As of about noon today," the presenter said, "we're at 82% completion," and added that bleacher installation crews were expected to begin this week.
The YMCA representative said substantial completion is targeted for Aug. 28, with final completion on Sept. 28. The presenter also said the YMCA and city would coordinate on grand‑opening planning and that the YMCA board and interim director had discussed whether to do a soft opening, a ribbon‑cutting or a larger celebration later.
Council members had no objections and were told there were no significant unforeseen issues affecting the schedule at this time. Staff and the presenter will continue coordination as the project approaches substantial completion.
