Selectboard tables Otter Creek engineering bid for BC2287; Road Commissioner to seek state exception

The Saint George Selectboard on April 16 opened a single engineering bid for project BC2287 and decided to postpone action so members could review technical materials and the Road Commissioner could pursue a state exception to the two-bid minimum used for grants.
Road Commissioner Scott Brooks said Otter Creek Engineering—s submission totaled $59,875. Brooks said he was disappointed to receive only one bid and that, because the supporting materials were very technical, the board—s consensus was to table the action and revisit it at the May meeting to allow time for further consideration and for Brooks to request the required state exception.
Brooks also updated the board about routine maintenance: ditching work has begun on Ayer Road and Oak Hill Road will require additional pothole repair after a winter in which a prior repair held through the season. He said two properties currently have double curb cuts where only one is allowed and that he will work with Zoning Administrator Maya Holmes on potential enforcement and investigate possibly non-working culverts.
On speed control, Brooks said he is coordinating with the Chittenden County Sheriff—s Office to place a speed cart on Route 2A; the sheriff—s office has indicated willingness to provide some free service but is waiting on state permitting. The board emphasized the need for a decision on the engineering procurement no later than the upcoming May meeting to complete the engineering study this season.
No formal vote to award the BC2287 contract was recorded; the matter was tabled pending additional information and any required approvals.
