President Jamie Breithaupt relayed a memorandum from Marcus Evans of the Harbor Springs Sewer Authority during the Jan. 12 meeting: Station 12’s backup generator, installed in 1967, requires replacement, and Evans recommended selecting a Cummings generator. The memorandum estimated the village’s share at 36% — $36,475.20 — and noted a lead time of about 30 weeks for a new unit.
Council members discussed funding options. Clerk-Treasurer Jennifer Murphy said the village should first confirm the number of sewer accounts and suggested the council consider a one-time $100 fee spread over four months as one mechanism to cover the cost. No motion to purchase or to impose a fee was recorded at the meeting; the item was added to the agenda at Breithaupt’s request and discussed but not decided.
Breithaupt and staff also discussed whether to plan a replacement now or to continue operating the existing unit until it failed. The council did not take formal action on replacement strategy during the session.
