Board approves front-yard variance for 114 River Rd, citing safety

Issac Bowers, the owner and applicant, told the board he sought the addition because the house, built in 1975, has a 36-1/2-inch landing that pushes people up or down the stairs when the door opens. He said the bump-out is intended to address that safety concern.
Chair Dave Kelley asked for questions before the motion. Board member Kyle Kurth asked whether the city had received any neighbor input; City staff Matt Elberson said they had not. After brief discussion, Tom Dravland moved to approve the variance; Ron McMahon seconded. The board approved the motion, 5-0.
The variance was recorded on the meeting agenda as a request for "front yard encroachment for new entry." The board took no additional conditions beyond the variance approval. The meeting adjourned at 5:17 p.m.
