Department heads and staff provided operational updates at the July 20 meeting, including details on pool planning, fire-department outreach and several public-works projects.
Development and parks staff urged residents to review the Dinkert Pool concept designs and fill out an online survey posted on the city website under the pool-study page. Staff said the presentation materials and a survey from a recent open house are posted online for public comment.
Byrd told the council he is working with park staff and legal counsel to prepare ballot language for a municipal-pool question that could appear on the November ballot if the council chooses to approve placement; he said the council will have two cycles to consider the wording and must meet county-auditor deadlines.
The fire department announced a free "Fire and Splash" community event on Saturday, July 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a Station 3 groundbreaking on July 29 at 10 a.m., and opened applications for the 2026 Citizens Fire Academy (limited seats; applications due Aug. 7; course runs Aug. 20–Oct. 8). Fire staff directed residents to the Burlington Fire Department Facebook page and city website for details.
Public-works staff gave brief project updates: Washington Street cleanup and asphalt prep, Summer Street paving to begin pending weather, and a Cascade Bridge public meeting and an online survey to collect comments. Staff said more detailed design materials and survey results will be returned to council when available.
Next steps: Parks staff encouraged the public to complete the pool survey; Byrd will return proposed ballot language in a future council cycle if the council directs placement.
