The board said the modest raise mirrors recent broad pay-indexing and is intended to keep county compensation more comparable with nearby employers.
On infrastructure, a commissioner moved that the county begin using precast concrete units for future cattle guards to reduce recurring maintenance; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. Supporters argued concrete guards will last longer and reduce repeated wood replacement costs, while opponents had earlier warned about initial price and handling logistics. The board asked staff to pursue quotes and to pursue any available vendor discounts.
The commissioners also moved and approved signing the county's contribution-and-eligibility form for the Mako health plan, agreeing to fund the county's employer contribution amount for employees under the selected plan. Board members noted monthly premiums have risen and said they will monitor sustainability and options for plan design in future budgets.
