Braselton work session reviews 50-year GDOT lighting MOA, a First Watch alcohol-license request and two board appointments; officer honored

At its June 4, 2026 work session, the Braselton City mayor and council considered several administratively significant items in addition to two policy resolutions.
Staff reviewed a memorandum of agreement with the Georgia Department of Transportation to install five new LED luminaries on five poles along State Route 53. Under the proposed MOA, the town would be responsible for installation, selecting locations, providing energy and ongoing operation and maintenance in accordance with GDOT's design policy manual; the agreement would remain in effect for 50 years, according to the meeting record.
Council also listed an application for a new alcohol license submitted by Sean Sanford for the First Watch restaurant at 1123 Braselton Village Parkway. The application requests permission for the sale of wine, malt beverages and distilled spirits, and to allow Sunday sales; the minutes record no discussion of the item.
Town Manager Ron Bennett recommended appointing Interim Town Clerk April Stephens and Deputy Clerk Elizabeth Nix to the Athens Area Facilities Authority; Bennett currently represents the town on that board and made the recommendation at the meeting.
The meeting opened with a ceremonial recognition: Officer Tony Walker of the Braselton Police Department was named Officer of the Year by the Gainesville Kiwanis Club, and Mayor Pro Tem Becky Richardson read the award certificate.
Councilmember James Murphy moved to adjourn at 4:26 p.m.; Mayor Pro Tem Becky Richardson seconded, and the meeting was adjourned. The minutes do not show additional votes or final actions on the MOA, license application or appointments.
