Council adopts zoning and registration rules for cannabis businesses

The Brooklyn Park City Council on Dec. 9 adopted Ordinance #2024-1307 on second reading, amending Chapters 127 and 152 of the city code to establish regulations for cannabis-oriented businesses.
Rental and Business Licensing Manager Jullie presented the second reading and said the ordinance follows prior public discussion (first reading Oct. 28). Council Member Boyd Morson asked whether THC sales have increased crime at nearby liquor stores; Police Chief Mark Bruley responded there is no direct relationship identified to date.
On motion by Klonowski and second by McGarvey, the council waived the reading and adopted the ordinance on second reading. The council also approved a summary ordinance determining that it clearly informs the public; the summary-ordinance vote recorded an abstention by Morson and otherwise passed.
The ordinance updates city registration and zoning rules for cannabis-related businesses and will take effect according to the city's ordinance-adoption procedures.
