Sandgate board hears Solid Waste overrun, readies election staffing and notes truck delivery

At the Feb. 16 meeting Selectboard members discussed several operational updates: a budget overrun at the regional Solid Waste Alliance, preliminary plans for Election Day staffing and training, and a highway report on equipment and salt supply.
Treasurer-related remarks from Linda Schmidt noted the Berkshire County Solid Waste Alliance (BCSWA) is 42% over budget this year. She said Sandgate’s portion of the bill will increase by roughly $700 and that she will attend a BCSWA meeting Wednesday to review the details.
On election preparations, Schmidt suggested Julie Robertson serve as a point person to coordinate poll sitters. Nancy Tschorn offered to poll-sit and Phyllis Skidmore volunteered both to poll-sit and to help count votes. Joe Nolan said he would contact Robin Wilcox to arrange training for incoming clerk Jessica Lewis Stevens so Election Day procedures meet state standards.
Joe Nolan reported the highway department’s new truck should arrive within the next two weeks. He added that salt had been delivered but that this might be the final delivery of the season because of a regional salt shortage.
The board approved the minutes of Feb. 2 and Feb. 6 and discussed routine old-business items (motions passed unanimously).
