Sandgate town clerk/treasurer to resign Feb. 20; minute taker to assume duties and be added as bank signer

At its Feb. 16 meeting the Sandgate Selectboard recorded that the town clerk/treasurer, referred to in the minutes as Sandy, submitted a resignation effective Feb. 20, 2026. Selectboard member Linda Schmidt requested a firm resignation date and the board set a special meeting for 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 at Town Hall to make the appointment official.
Jessica Lewis Stevens, who served as minute taker at the meeting, was identified by the board as the successor and will take over as town clerk and treasurer after Feb. 20. The board discussed the bank process for adding a new signer: the bank requires minutes showing the selectboard vote to add a signer. Linda Schmidt moved to make Jessica an official signer as Assistant Treasurer; Rob Viglas seconded and the vote was unanimous.
Board members also reviewed payroll for the outgoing clerk. Rob Viglas expressed concern about paying the full salary for February given missed selectboard meetings and the clerk’s pending resignation. The board calculated a prorated February salary for Sandy—removing the final week of pay for the clerk/treasurer role and deducting four hours of clerk pay for missed meetings—and Linda amended the Selectman's Orders accordingly.
The board advised that the special meeting will be warned on the town website and in person and that Linda will ask Sandy to warn the meeting for 6 p.m. on Feb. 20.
