Selectboard members in Sandgate on Jan. 19 approved a $528,245 highway budget for fiscal 2026–27, moving the proposal forward without revisions.
The vote came after a brief report from Selectboard member Joe Nolan that discussions with Road Foreman Jay Wilson indicated the budget would remain largely unchanged from the current year. Selectboard member Linda Schmidt moved to approve the highway budget and Nolan seconded; all members voted in favor.
The decision follows road maintenance updates discussed at the meeting. Nolan told the board the Road Crew has switched to a new salt vendor after dissatisfaction with prior salt quality; despite a lower vendor price, salt spending has increased this winter because of frequent snowfalls. Nolan also reported that delivery of a new plow truck is delayed while the installer awaits the dump box.
The board did not amend the highway appropriation during the meeting. With the approval, the highway budget will be included in the warning for the March town meeting and listed on the town meeting ballot where required.
The Selectboard's next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 2 at 6:00 p.m. at Sandgate Town Hall.
