High school construction inspection set to begin; board extends modular removal and flags playground surface replacement

Superintendent Dr. Mitchell Stone told the Oelrichs School District 23-3 board on Oct. 21 that construction inspection for the high school will begin Tuesday, Oct. 22, and that an exit meeting with the contractor will follow the next day. Board members were invited to attend and the district will post a notice of a possible quorum.
During the same part of the agenda the board approved extending the removal deadline for a modular unit by 60 days on a motion by Board member Dave Osmotherly, seconded by Katie Merdanian.
The district's insurance company performed a risk assessment and determined the old playground surface must be replaced with an approved safety surface such as wood chips. Board President John Cope also noted a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground that will be covered in the local newspaper.
Dr. Stone said he will seek more information about possible makerspaces at the school. The minutes do not include a schedule or funding plan for replacing the playground surface; the action required is advisory in the minutes and will likely require a follow-up report.
