Board approves Special Education Comprehensive Plan; attorney warns of SPED tax-collection deadline

The board approved the Special Education Comprehensive Plan and heard from the district attorney that, if the county does not progress on SPED property tax collection by Nov. 1, the district will need to decide how to pursue the lost revenue; the county state’s attorney had not responded to outreach.
The Oelrichs School District 23-3 board approved the Special Education Comprehensive Plan as prepared by Heather Hunsaker at the Sept. 16 meeting.
Attorney Hickey told the board he has been in contact with the Fall River County Auditor regarding collection of Special Education property tax. Hickey recommended that if there is no progress toward recovery by Nov. 1 the district will need to make decisions about how to proceed to collect the lost revenue. The minutes state the Fall River County State's Attorney had not responded to Hickey’s request for communication.
The minutes also note that State Department of Education onsite reviews are scheduled Oct. 1 for ADA and non‑discrimination policies and the five‑year SPED review. The board approved the Special Education Comprehensive Plan by motion (Osmotherly; second Schommer).
