Wymore allocates $212,013.71 in ARPA funds for parking, equipment and paving; backhoe purchase tabled

At its Nov. 6 meeting the Wymore City Council approved a set of allocations from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds totaling $212,013.71 and authorized several related grant applications.
By motion, the council directed $40,000 for the Community Center parking lot and painting; $27,000 for the Fire Department parking lot; $72,000 toward purchasing a new backhoe; $8,000 for a new heating system at the City Shop; and the remaining $65,013.71 to be used for paving projects around town. The motions carried with the three council members present voting in favor; Council member Max Allen was absent.
Council also approved applying for a Thomas Sister Grant to support the Community Center parking lot and building painting and authorized Utilities Superintendent Tim Sedlacek to apply for the Morris Endowment Grant to fund new Community Center doors. Discussion about moving forward with a backhoe purchase was tabled until the next meeting so members can review options.
Separately, the council voted to withdraw ARPA CD #603133 on its maturity date (Nov. 9) and transfer those funds into the general fund.
The council’s actions allocate ARPA funding to visible infrastructure projects; the backhoe purchase will return to a future agenda for further consideration.
