Wymore council approves Ordinance 680 setting city pay and orders retroactive checks

The Wymore City Council approved Ordinance 680 on Nov. 6, adopting a new compensation schedule for city officers and employees and directing the clerk to make pay changes retroactive to Oct. 1.
City Attorney Andy Carothers read the ordinance after the council voted to suspend the three-reading requirement. Clerk Janet Riensche was instructed to issue back pay in a separate check to cover the retroactive amount. Council members present—Sue Sapp, Curt Oblinger and Neil Van Boening—voted to approve the ordinance; Council member Max Allen was absent.
Councilor Van Boening raised questions about library wages; Riensche said she had spoken with Austin Jackson, the library director, and that the library board wanted staff evaluations completed first and will not meet again until January. Carothers clarified that payments to Fire and EMS officers are handled as independent contractors and therefore were not required to be included in the ordinance.
The broader employee compensation package beyond the adopted ordinance was tabled to the next agenda for further consideration.
The ordinance takes effect per its provisions as approved by the council; the clerk is to process retroactive pay as directed.
