Appling County honors two long-serving employees; recreation and roads report active spring schedule

Appling County honored two long-serving employees during its May 2 meeting. County Manager Al Meadows read plaques presented to Felicia Disharoon in recognition of 19 years of service as a dispatcher with the Appling County E-911 Center and to Richard Lee for 24 years as an equipment operator in the county road department.
Recreation director Timmy McGuirt reported 17 youth teams were playing across three fields, 17 participants were planning to attend the state track meet in Jefferson, the Aquatic Center planned its first pool aerobics class for May 3, 2023, and Appling will host a state swim meet on July 22, 2023. Registration for golf and tennis is open, he said.
Roads & Bridges supervisor Brooks Johnson said crews are clipping shoulders and coordinating with the City of Baxley Public Works to move water out of city canals toward the county; he described the effort as ongoing and long-term.
The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m. and the minutes were signed by County Clerk Robyn Evans and Chairman Leslie Burch.
