Appling County commissioners approve Head Start grant resolution, update fire mutual-aid pact and greenlight Sunshine Drive paving

County Manager Al Meadows presented an updated Automatic Aid Agreement for all Appling County fire departments; the agreement had not been revised since 2012. On road work, Meadows reported that Sunshine Drive is ready for pavement to Azalea Drive and that Roberts Engineering estimated the construction, oversight and contingency costs at $460,000. Meadows said the project would be paid from TIA discretionary funds. Commissioner Daryl Edwards moved to proceed; Commissioner Theodore Wilkerson seconded and the board voted unanimously to approve.
During executive session the board discussed personnel matters and took no personnel action upon reconvening. County Attorney Tracy Brown asked the board to authorize Chairman Leslie Burch to sign two quit-claim deeds returning right-of-way parcels to their owners; Commissioner Charlie Leggett moved, Commissioner Doug Harris seconded, and the board unanimously approved the authorization.
